Gym Instructor

Overview

If you’re looking to start a career in the health and fitness industry, this is the course to get you going. The course will provide you with the necessary knowledge to induct clients into the gym environment. It will teach you how to deliver a safe and effective exercise programme

 

Course content

  • Exercise and fitness knowledge covering:
    -bones and joints
    -muscles and muscle actions
    -cardiovascular and respiratory components of fitness
    -principles of training
  • How to plan and teach safe and effective exercise sessions
  • The principles of training
  • How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels

Exercise to music

Overview

This course will qualify you to become an aerobics/group instructor. There are great opportunities for instructors, whether you want to teach in leisure centres and health clubs or maybe you want to hire your local village hall and run your own classes.

You will cover the initial “Exercise and Fitness knowledge module” before covering the practical elements of how to plan and delivery a fun exercise class

    • Exercise and fitness knowledge covering:
      -bones and joints
      -muscles and muscle actions
      -cardiovascular and respiratory components of fitness
      -principles of training
    • How to plan, teach and evaluate a safe and effective exercise to music session
    • Appropriate health and safety considerations
    • Exercise class approaches and techniques
    • How to set up a class

    Entry requirements

    There are no entry requirements however it would be useful if you have already attended a variety of exercise to music classes

This course is ideal for those of you who are already a qualified Fitness instructor who wants to start teaching Step aerobics.

Studio Resistance Training

Overview

This qualification is available to individuals already instructing who wish to improve their knowledge and skills to enable them to deliver Studio Resistance Training sessions. It is also relevant for those already running such sessions without a formal qualification.

  • Appropriate health and safety considerations
  • Resistance training approaches and techniques

  • Effective use of music

Entry requirements

Candidates must be in possession of a CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing qualification, or other qualification recognised by the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ)

Circuit Training

REPs Level 3 Courses

Designed to provide an advanced level of exercise and fitness knowledge, these qualifications provide the basis for careers in Personal Training or Advanced Fitness Instructing, both of which secure entry to REPs at Level 3. They also allow instructors to specialise in working with GP referred clients, older adults or ante and postnatal women. They are equivalent to A levels or NVQ 3.

Advanced Fitness Instructor

Overview

Ideal qualification for those gym instructors who want to increase their overall exercise and fitness knowledge

Pilates Mat Instructor

Overview

This course is for both the studio instructor who wants to teach group Pilates classes and also for gym instructors and Personal Trainers who want to incorporate Pilates moves into the clients programmes

    -cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous/endocrine systems
    -components of fitness

Entry requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification, however it is expected that candidates have a basic level of knowledge and experience of practicing Pilates prior to entry.
